This veg­e­tar­i­an stir-fry sauce with mush­rooms, often also called veg­e­tar­i­an oys­ter sauce, is the per­fect sub­sti­tute for reg­u­lar oys­ter sauce in Chi­nese cook­ery. Enhance food with the uma­mi-rich soy and shi­itake mush­room flavours of this sauce — per­fect for stir fries, dip­ping sauces and glazes.

The veg­e­tar­i­an stir-fry sauce is made by Lee Kum Kee — a com­pa­ny found­ed by Lee Kam She­ung — the inven­tor of the orig­i­nal oys­ter sauce. The chef from Guang­dong was cook­ing an oys­ter broth in 1888, when he acci­den­tal­ly let it caramelize, only to dis­cov­er what deli­cious flavours it cre­at­ed. The com­pa­ny has con­tin­ued to grow over four gen­er­a­tions and has won sev­er­al awards for the qual­i­ty of its sauces.
